File requests, forms, Secure Drop or Conversations: which to use

Four ways to work with clients, and the job each one does best.

Updated November 7, 2026

MyDocUploads has four ways to work with people outside your company. Each one does a different job.

File requests: collect files

Use a file request when you need documents back, such as statements, contracts or photos. The client gets an upload link and the files land in their workspace.

Forms: collect information

Use a form when you need answers, such as a new client's details or a service request. Forms can also collect a few files alongside the answers.

Secure Drop: send something that isn't a file

Use Secure Drop for a password, a code or an account number. It's a one-time encrypted message that stops working after it's read or after it expires.

Conversations: discuss a file

Use Conversations when people need to talk about a specific file and record an approval on it.

And to get a signature

Use Sign to send a PDF for e-signature. A tick box in a form is not a signature.

Common questions

Can I ask for a password in a form?

No. Use Secure Drop for passwords and codes. They need to expire, and a form answer doesn't.

Where do files from forms and file requests end up?

In the client's workspace, so they're scanned, viewable in the browser and part of the workspace's activity record.
