Request files from a client

Send a client an upload link so they can send you documents without creating an account.

Updated November 7, 2026

A file request gives your client a simple upload page. They don't need an account, and their files land in the workspace folder you choose.

Create a file request

  1. Open the client's workspace and select File requests in the left sidebar.
  2. Select New request.
  3. Enter a Title, such as "Onboarding documents", and instructions telling the client what to upload.
  4. Optional: enter the client's email under Request Files From (Recipient Email). We'll email them the upload link.
  5. Under Collect into, choose the folder the uploads should go to.
  6. Optional: set when the request expires (7, 30 or 90 days, or no expiry), the Max files, the Max size / file (MB), a Password and the Allowed types (for example pdf, png, docx).
  7. Select Create request.

Copy the link

The upload link is shown once, right after you create the request. Copy it if you want to send it yourself. If you entered the client's email, they already have it.

When files arrive

Uploads appear in the folder you chose. Files that come in from outside are scanned for malware first, which usually takes a few minutes, and you'll be able to open them once the scan is done.

Close a request

On the File requests page, close a request when you have everything you need. The link then stops accepting uploads.

Common questions

Does my client need a MyDocUploads account?

No. They open the link, enter their name and upload their files.

Are uploaded files scanned?

Yes. Files that come in through a file request are scanned for malware before anyone can open them.
