Send a password or sensitive details with Secure Drop
Send a password, account number or file through an encrypted link that expires.
Secure Drop is for things that shouldn't sit in an inbox forever, like passwords, account numbers or a sensitive file. You get an encrypted link that stops working after a set number of views or a set time.
Send a Secure Drop message
- In the left sidebar, select Secure Drop, then New message.
- Type the details in Message.
- Optional: under Attachments, select Add files to include files.
- Set Max views. The message self-destructs after this many opens.
- Choose when it Expires: 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or no expiry.
- Optional: add a Password. The recipient must enter it to open the message, so send it a different way, such as by phone.
- Optional: enter the recipient's email under Send Encrypted Message To (Recipient Email), and add a Label that only you can see.
- Select Generate secure link.
Share the link
Copy the link and send it to your recipient, or let us email it if you entered their address. Select View sent messages to see what you've sent, how many times each message has been viewed, and its access log.
Good to know
- Once a message reaches its view limit or expires, it can't be opened again.
- Use a short expiry for passwords, so the details don't stay available longer than needed.
- A link can be forwarded. The access log shows when a message was opened, not who opened it, so add a password for anything sensitive.
Common questions
Can I see whether my message was opened?
Yes. Your sent messages show how many times each message has been viewed, and View opens its status and access log. We also email you when a message is opened.
